Skill Development Training for Women: Dhaka Topi Making Training
Due to a lack of necessary skills, women living in rural areas are often compelled to remain economically dependent on others. Because of inadequate skills, women spend most of their time engaged only in household chores and care work. In order to provide women with essential skills and enable them to become capable of generating income through capacity development, a Dhaka topi-making training was conducted for women with the support of the Parliamentary Development Fund. The training was provided to 29 women from Dharan.
Bag Making Training
With the active participation of local women’s groups, this
Women and Child Protection Forum has been established to promote and safeguard
the rights of women and children. The Forum has been implementing various
programs aimed at the protection and promotion of the rights of women and
children. In particular, it has been conducting awareness-raising activities
and skill development trainings to empower socially excluded and marginalised
groups, including Dalits, Indigenous Peoples (Adivasi Janajati), children,
women, Madhesi communities, and minority Muslim communities.
With the support and coordination of local and provincial
governments, as well as collaboration with various partner organisations, the
Forum has been organising different programs to strengthen the empowerment of
Dalits, Indigenous Peoples, children, women, Madhesi, and minority Muslim
communities. Under this initiative, and with the support of Tewa, a bag-making
skills training was successfully conducted under the special management of the
Ward Office of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City.
The training was organised with the objective of supporting
highly vulnerable women of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City to enhance their skills
and increase their income-generating opportunities. The six-day training
program was conducted from 25th to 30th Mangsir 2081, during which 12 women
from various wards of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City received hands-on training.
Advocacy Campaigns
Awareness Training on Violence against women
With the support of the Ministry of Social Development, Provincial Government, a legal awareness training on violence against women was organized in Sunsari for 41 community women leaders. The training focused on the causes of violence against women, the legal procedures to be followed for seeking justice in cases of violence against women, relevant stakeholders, and existing government laws, acts, and regulations related to violence against women. The sessions were facilitated by trainer Manjulata Upadhyay.
The three-day program was formally inaugurated by the Deputy Mayor of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City, Mr Aaindra Bikram Begha, among other distinguished guests.
Capacity Development Program for Women on the Occasion of
International Women’s Day
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, which is
celebrated for the advancement of women’s rights, the organization conducted
various programs. With the main objective of supporting women’s leadership
development, a program focusing on women’s participation and challenges within
state institutions was organized to mark International Women’s Day. The program
was conducted with the participation of 50 individuals, including women human
rights defenders working at the local level, representatives of civil society
organizations, and women leaders from political parties.
Capacity Building and Organisational Development
though the organization has been working for a long time in the areas of women’s capacity development, legal awareness, and the promotion of women’s rights, the absence of its own five-year strategic plan has created challenges to the organization’s sustainable development. Due to the lack of a five-year strategic plan, coordination and collaboration with supporting agencies and key stakeholders have been constrained, and some potential partners have been reluctant to engage in cooperation.
Furthermore, inadequate knowledge and limited institutional development capacity among the organization’s affiliated members have hindered the achievement of sustainable organizational growth. With the support of the Provincial Government, budgetary resources have been allocated for the operation of a Rehabilitation Center for Vulnerable Women, and the construction of the required building is currently in progress. However, in order to ensure the effective utilization and sustainable operation of this facility, strong leadership and a well-defined five-year strategic plan are essential.
Accordingly, a program was successfully conducted to formulate a five-year strategic plan aimed at strengthening institutional capacity and ensuring the organisation’s sustainable development partnership with TEWA.
